Pets & Evolution: A Complete Guide

Pets are the quiet heroes of a great team. They don't fight on the front line, but the right companion — evolved and paired well — can swing a duel as hard as a stronger hero. Here's how to master them.
What pets do
Each pet supports your team in its own way: buffing attack or speed, shielding your heroes, healing, or revealing the enemy's next move. Because pets amplify whatever your heroes are already doing, choosing the right one is a core part of deckbuilding, not an afterthought.
Hatching
Pets hatch from crystal eggs earned through play, events and the Codex. Hatching is free progression — no purchase required — so your stable of companions grows naturally as you play.
How evolution works
Evolution ascends a pet (or hero) into a stronger form. Each evolution:
- Raises its stats.
- Upgrades or adds to its ability.
- Transforms its art into something more dazzling.
You evolve by gathering a pet's specific materials — earned through normal play — and ascending it at the altar. The star-fox you hatch on day one can become an endgame centrepiece.
Prioritising materials
Early on, materials are your tightest resource. The rule is the same as for heroes: evolve what you play. Pour materials into the one pet that anchors your core team before you spread out. A single fully-evolved companion does more than four half-evolved ones gathering dust.
Your pet should match your team's identity. Aggressive team? Evolve a speed or attack pet. Defensive team? Evolve a shield or heal pet.
Pet pairing by team type
- Aggro teams: speed and attack pets to end duels before the enemy stabilises.
- Defensive teams: shield and heal pets to outlast and grind.
- Tricky teams: seer pets that reveal enemy intent to set up the perfect counter.
Experimenting with pairings is one of the most rewarding ways to climb — and it keeps even a familiar hero line-up feeling fresh. For the bigger team picture, read the deck-building guide.
